Calling all Villains, Vixens and Vampires! The time is upon us for Fantasy Fest 2009 in Key West! If you are cold, then come to Key West where things are really going to be heating up October 23 – November 1. With great food and a wild time, it is not a street festival for the faint of heart!
You can start out Friday as early as noon at Goombay in Bahamas Village! The party goes from noon to midnight and starts again on Saturday. You can hear everything from a Gospel Choir to Old School Rock-n- Roll, just check out their schedule of events for October 23 and 24th. Don’t forget to head over to the Royal Coronation Ball at La Te Da (1125 Duvall St.) to see who this years King and Queen of Fantasy Fest will be!
Speaking of costumes, the Pretenders in Paradise Ultimate Costume Competition has announced their theme for 2009; “It’s Not Easy Being Green!” Prizes range from $500 to $2,000! They will be looking for those “lovers, dreamers and you” to jump on the rainbow connection with the most eco-friendly costume! This Biodegradable battle royale of the costume world will take place at the Pier House Resort & Caribbean Spa. You can call 305-296-1817 for more information or download your application. The deadline on the application is October 27th!
Costumed revelers will lead a Masquerade March through the Old Town section of Key West on October 30. The next day, floats and groups of costumed people will dominate Duval Street, as the annual Captain Morgan Fantasy Fest Parade takes place. On lookers can enjoy the parades and peruse the food stands and arts and crafts booths along the way.
Halloween falls within Fantasy Fest Week, so a little spooky, scary fun merges the two events. You can start out at Happy Hour on the The USS Mohawk or you can check out the Haunting of Fort Taylor! On Saturday, October 24, you can enjoy the Vampire’s Ball at the Fort. Music, dancing, food and drinks are on the menu, plus a costume contest with awesome prizes!
